By Anna Diaz, Oregon NORML
Please join Oregon NORML and Oregon Medical Marijuana Program (OMMP) cardholders for a weekend of celebration and education in honor of the program’s ten-year success. On Friday, May 1, 2009 at the State Capitol Gallery in Salem, Oregon from 9:00am to 3:00pm, there will be an educational program open to the public to share information and the achievements of the OMMP. Questions will be answered in person and with an informative Power Point presentation. OMMP patients will be on hand to share their success stories. Refreshments will be served.
This celebration is the precursor to the tenth annual Global Cannabis March in Portland at the Pioneer Courthouse Square on May 2, 2009. This event starts at 10:00am with vendors and music. The march itself starts at high noon with a full police escort. Details can be found at www.ornorml.org or by calling Madeline Martinez at 503-239-6110.
Tenth Annual Global Cannabis March
Portland, Oregon – Saturday, May 2, 2009 marks the tenth annual Global Cannabis March in Portland, Oregon. This year’s march and rally runs from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Participants will gather in Pioneer Courthouse Square to march at high noon through downtown Portland, accompanied by a police escort. Oregon NORML hosts this year’s march with sponsors Cures-Not-Wars, The Hemp and Cannabis Foundation and Urbage Designs.
Ma, the Hemp Dragon, will be winding her way through the march again this year. “Ma” is the Mandarin Chinese word for “hemp.” She is completely handmade from stalks gathered from medical cannabis gardens and hand-dyed hemp fabric made by medical cannabis patients. She is fashioned after the Chinese dragons that highlight Chinese New Year parades.

Join us at Pioneer Square as we also celebrate the tenth successful year of the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program. This year will be bigger and better than ever. Chief Greenbud, all the way from Nashville, Tennessee, is just one of the musical acts performing as Oregon NORML hosts the all-day event. He will be joined by Human and the Human Revolution, a cannabis activist band, Amha Baraka, a reggae band from the Bay Area with activist speakers and other musical guests to fill out the day. Vendors and nonprofit groups will provide goods and services that support the hemp and cannabis community. Voter registration and educational information will be available to the public.
For more information, please contact Oregon NORML at 503-239-6110 or visit www.ornorml.org. Come out and join what has become a staple of local Portland culture, the Million Marijuana March. And remember, we will be at Pioneer Square all day!
