United States: First-Ever Nationwide Pro-Marijuana TV Ad Campaign Is Launched in Conjunction with 4/20

By Allen St. Pierre, NORML Executive Director

There is a truth that must be heard!Boulder, Colorado: I have every reason to believe that 4/20 in 2009 will be the biggest and most momentous one to date as NORML launches 7,770 nationwide TV ads that advocate for cannabis law reform; NORML expects record numbers of supporters to join the organization for the celebratory one-day price of $4.20 because, I believe, there is a palpable zeitgeist in America right now favoring reform; the Obama administration appears amenable to some cannabis law reforms in ways that no prior president since Jimmy Carter has embraced; and lastly, with NORML’s nearly 600,000 ‘friends’ on Facebook and nearly 67,000 MySpace, more Americans than ever before who are keen on cannabis can create a viral effect that benefits reform.

Here in Boulder between 10,000-15,000 students and activists are expected to celebrate in what has become the biggest 4/20 event in the world.

Reason.tv and Drew Carey present Raiding California: Medical Marijuana and Minors

By Drew Carey, Reason.tv

Should medical marijuana be kept from minors at all costs? Why is it that pharmacists can dispense amphetamines without getting busted, but legal operators who dispense medical marijuana face prison time? Why do armed federal agents persist in raiding California?

With its sun, surf and small town atmosphere, California's San Luis Obispo County is a good place to grow up. Seventeen-year-old Owen Beck played football and soccer for a local high school, but one day his thoughts abruptly turned away from sports and school. Doctors told Owen he had bone cancer, and would have to begin chemotherapy right away.

The young athlete suffered another blow—doctors would have to amputate his leg to try to keep the cancer from spreading. Chemotherapy attacked Owen's cancer and his body, leaving him bald, gaunt, and vomiting the food he needed to recover. The amputation introduced Owen to a bizarre, new agony called phantom pain, and although doctors gave him powerful medication, nothing helped.

But might a new kind of pharmacy offer new hope? A medical marijuana dispensary had recently opened in the nearby city of Morro Bay. More than a decade earlier, California voters legalized medical marijuana and Morro Bay's mayor and Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the dispensary, and its owner Charlie Lynch.

A Peaceful Solution

A Peaceful Solution written by Willie & Amy Nelson on April 29th, 2007 at 3:03am on the bus in California, on the way to Coachella.

Amy’s video takes us from New York to Carl’s Corner, TX where her Dad, Willie Nelson, meets with local farmers to discuss Biodiesel crops on April 25th, 2007. Amy suggests in her video that Biodiesel represents a peaceful solution for sustainability.

Sustainability offers a peaceful solution to end war for oil and protect our environment.

Sustainability offers the means to provide for the needs of the community without damaging the ability of future generations to provide for their own needs.

Sustainability guarantees that the process, although implemented continuously, will not injure the environment in any way or pass on high costs to anyone participating.

There is a peaceful solution. It’s called a peace revolution.
Now let’s take back America.
There’s a war and we’re in it, but I know we can win it.
So let’s take back America.

It’s a dream, so believe it.
Now get ready to receive it.
And let’s take back America.

Oregon: Hempstalk 2008 Slideshow - Simple Ways

By Michael Bachara, Hemp News Staff

Featured is a short slideshow from Hempstalk 2008 in Portland, Oregon. It is set to the song "Simple Ways" by The Human Revolution and consists of speakers/performers from the event.

From Keith Stroup to Jack Herer, the Hempstalk 2008 speakers were educational and informative, discussing the merits of Cannabis and Hemp on the main stage as well as in the Hemposium pavillion. It is our hope that the Hemposium will continue to evolve and grow, providing experts and information from doctors and lawyers to local business people working to promote Hemp and Cannabis. Having a variety of speakers complimented the wide range of musical acts that took to the Hempstalk stage.

It was truly an honor to have the likes of John Trudell and Bad Dog, as well as The Human Revolution, State of Jefferson, and the ever popular Seattle Hempfest house band (one of our favorites) the Herbivores. To everyone who participated, volunteered, and helped make Hempstalk 2008 possible, we thank you and look forward to a fun and informative Hempstalk 2009!
